Olga
Kotova is a graduate of the Central Music School in Moscow and received her
Honours Diploma in Violin Performance from the Moscow State Tchaikovsky
Conservatory. She has performed in solo recitals and with orchestras since
age of 14 in Russia, Bulgaria, Germany, and USA
and
was a semi-finalist at the International Jeunesses Musicales Violin
Competition in Belgrade, Yugoslavia (1991) and Lois Spohr International
Violin Competition in Freiburg, Germany (1991).
Since coming to Canada in 1994, Ms. Kotova has been performing in recitals
with her husband Dmitry Nesterov (together known as Duo Solista) in Western
Canada. In 1997 she received her Masters Degree in violin performance from
the University of Calgary. Olga is a frequent guest at the Banff Arts
Festival and Mozart Festival in Kelowna, BC and has collaborated with St.
Lawrence String Quartet, the University of Calgary String Quartet, conductor
Alex Pauk from Toronto’s Esprit Orchestra, conductor Bernard Labadie from
Montreal, Canadian composers Chantal Laplante, Hope Lee, David Eagle and
Allan Bell, New Works Calgary and Ensemble Resonance. She is frequently
heard on CBC radio and has appeared as soloist with the Mozart Festival
Orchestra and Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra.
Ms. Kotova’s recent performances include J. N. Hummel’s Double concerto for
violin and piano with D.Nesterov and Kamloops Symphony, BC, Nesterov- Kotova-
Kalmykov piano trio recital for Alberta in Concert and CBC Radio and several
recitals in Duo Solista in Alberta. In August 2001 Olga successfully
participated in the Cantai Festival of Music and Dance in Taipei, Taiwan,
where she was teaching, giving masterclasses and seminars on Russian violin
pedagogy as well as performing with Ensemble Resonance and solo in the
National Concert Hall.
Olga Kotova is a member of Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra and on Faculty at
Mount Royal College.
Dmitry
Nesterov
Dmitry Nesterov
arrived on the Canadian music scene in 1992 when he became a Laureate in the
first Esther Honens Calgary International Piano Competition.
Since settling in
Canada
with his family in 1994, Mr. Nesterov has impressed audiences, critics and
colleagues alike with concert and recital work. He has appeared as a soloist
with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, the Edmonton Symphony, the
Lethbridge and Red Deer Symphonies as well as with numerous orchestras in
Russia.
Mr. Nesterov is a frequent guest at the Banff Arts Festival and the Mozart
Festival in Kelowna, BC, and has collaborated with the Alberta Ballet, New
Works Calgary, the St. Lawrence String Quartet, Flutist Patrick Gallois,
Pianist Jon Kimura Parker, conductors Hans Graf, Mario Bernardi, Claude
Lapalme, Kirk Muspratt, Jean Larouge, Alex Pauk, Bernard Labadie, Sara Jobin
and can be heard on CBC Radio.
Mr. Nesterov’s recent engagements include performances as soloist with
Kamloops Symphony Orchestra, Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, Alberta Ballet
as a guest soloist in “Lady of the Camellias”(All-Chopin program with
performances in Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver), performance in Millennium
Foundation Concert Series,
Alberta
in Concert series, and numerous recitals in Duo Solista with his wife
violinist Olga Kotova encircling Alberta.
Dmitry Nesterov is a graduate of the Central Music School in Moscow, Moscow

Mr. Nesterov is a dedicated teacher and teaches for the Mount Royal College
in Calgary.
CALGARY, Alberta....Celebrating 25 years of music-making, the INSTRUMENTAL
SOCIETY OF CALGARY opened its 2005/2006 season with the internationally
acclaimed DUO SOLISTA.
Esther Honens Laureate, Russian pianist Dmitry Nesterov and his wife,
award-winning violinist Olga Kotova have toured as DUO SOLISTA since
emigrating to Canada
in 1994. In this afternoon's program, they joined by their son, 13-year old
violinist Lev Nesterov, a recent winner at the Canadian Music Competitions.
Their eclectic program included the famous Bach Chaconne in d minor, a
charming early piano sonata by Franz Schubert (Sonata in c minor Op. 10, No.
13) and the haunting Sonata in D major, Op 94a by Sergei Prokofiev. A world
premiere for two violins "Fiddlejazzimo" by Dmitry Nesterov will entertain
the entire family.
